Solarpraxis donation for victims of the East Africa famine
East Africa currently suffers from one of the driest periods in decades caused by two consecutive rainy periods in the past year. The continuing drought is compounded by high grain prices, an increased livestock death rate as well as lasting conflicts and restricted humanitarian access to some regions. Large parts of Somalia have been afflicted by civil war for more than 20 years and expellees have great difficulty reaching the few places providing food aid or medical care. This exceedingly difficult situation of the people was the determining reason for the decision to make a non-sustainable donation. In August 2011, Solarpraxis AG is thus once again actively supporting disaster relief.
Solarpraxis AG is active in the renewable energy sector and thus actively works on reshaping the energy supply toward an increased use of renewable energies. Despite that, the company wants to support the people that are affected by the consequences of current climate changes that they are not responsible for. They are doing this via "Doctors Without Borders".
"Doctors Without Borders" provides emergency medical care when the lives of many people are affected in war zones or after natural disasters – regardless of origin, religion or political opinion. "Doctors Without Borders" has been working continuously in Somalia since 1991 and currently offers free medical treatment in eight regions in the southern part of the country. More than 1,300 Somalian staff members, with the support of about 100 staff members in Nairobi, render free health care, treat malnutrition, assist expellees and distribute water and relief supplies. "Doctors Without Borders" does not accept government funding for the assistance in Somalia, which is financed exclusively with private donations.
